Overview
MEVAC® Fumed Silica Core M200 is a pre-formed fumed silica core board supplied as a raw intermediate material to vacuum insulation panel (VIP) manufacturers and fabricators. Unlike the finished MEVAC® Fumed Silica VIP and Glass Fiber VIP products — which are delivered as complete sealed panels ready for installation — Core M200 is an unsealed, unlaminated core board that VIP fabricators load into their own barrier film envelopes, evacuate, and seal using their own panel production equipment.
The M200 core board is produced from high-purity fumed silica (amorphous SiO₂ nanopowder) combined with infrared opacifiers and structural binders, pressed into rigid boards at controlled density. The nanostructured microporous matrix delivers intrinsic core thermal conductivity of <0.0045 W/(m·K) — identical to the core material used in the finished MEVAC® Fumed Silica VIP. Core M200 is optimized for medium-to-low temperature applications, covering the environmental range from cryogenic cold chain through ambient temperature service, and is compatible with the same barrier film systems and vacuum sealing equipment used for standard fumed silica VIP production.
Panel manufacturers who already own barrier film laminating and vacuum sealing equipment can source Core M200 to add MEVAC® fumed silica core quality to their panel production line, without purchasing finished panels. This approach is suited to VIP fabricators who require custom core board dimensions outside the standard finished panel size range, or who wish to integrate a consistent core material into their own panel brand.
Technical Specifications

|---|---|---|
| Product type | — | Pre-formed core board (unsealed, unlaminated) |
| Core material | — | Fumed silica with IR opacifiers and binders |
| Intrinsic core thermal conductivity (λ) | W/(m·K) | <0.0045 |
| Application temperature range | — | Medium-to-low temperature environments |
| Core board form | — | Rigid pressed board |
| Barrier film | — | Not included (supplied by fabricator) |

Applications
VIP Panel Manufacturing — Custom Dimensions
Finished MEVAC® Fumed Silica VIPs are available in standard size ranges up to 1400 × 800 mm. Panel fabricators who require larger core board dimensions, unusual aspect ratios, or custom board thicknesses outside the standard finished panel range can source Core M200 as a flexible intermediate and produce panels to their own dimensional specifications.
OEM Panel Production
VIP manufacturers supplying proprietary panel brands to appliance OEMs, cold chain packaging OEMs, or building product system integrators can incorporate MEVAC® Core M200 into their production as a certified, consistent core material while maintaining their own panel brand and barrier film selection.
Research and Development
Thermal insulation research institutions, testing laboratories, and product development teams evaluating fumed silica VIP panel configurations can source Core M200 as a research-grade core material for prototype panel fabrication and performance testing.
Cold Chain Packaging Panel Production
Cold chain packaging manufacturers who fabricate their own VIP-insulated shipper boxes or reusable temperature-controlled containers in-house can source Core M200 for integration into box wall panel production, applying their own barrier film and vacuum sealing process tuned to their specific packaging geometry.
Packaging & Storage
Core M200 boards are palletized in sealed polyethylene packaging to protect the core material from humidity and mechanical damage during transit and storage. The fumed silica core is hygroscopic before vacuum sealing — moisture uptake increases effective core conductivity and must be controlled prior to vacuum sealing operations.
Storage requirements:
- Store sealed in original packaging until immediately before use
- Storage environment: dry, low-humidity conditions (relative humidity <50% recommended)
- Avoid temperature extremes during storage
- Once packaging is opened, the core board should be loaded into the barrier film envelope and vacuum-sealed promptly — extended exposure to ambient humidity will increase moisture content and degrade panel performance
- Pre-sealing drying (outgassing) at elevated temperature is typically required before vacuum sealing — contact East Materials for recommended drying protocols for Core M200
