Overview
METHERM CS 1050 is a high-temperature calcium silicate insulation board based on the xonotlite mineral phase (Ca₆Si₆O₁₇(OH)₂), produced via autoclave hydrothermal synthesis from high-purity silica, lime, and inorganic reinforcing fibres. The xonotlite crystal network provides dimensional stability and structural integrity at service temperatures up to 1050°C, well beyond the practical limit of standard lower-grade calcium silicate (tobermorite-based, typically limited to 650°C) and mineral wool or fibreglass insulation.
The product is a rigid, machinable, non-combustible board supplied flat in standard dimensions. It can be sawn, drilled, and shaped on-site using standard woodworking tools, making it practical for fitting complex geometries in industrial installations without expensive pre-fabrication. Unlike flexible insulation materials, METHERM CS 1050 boards maintain their dimensions and compressive integrity after repeated thermal cycling across the full service temperature range — a critical property for industrial furnace lining backup and petrochemical equipment where maintenance downtime is costly.
METHERM CS 1050 is specifiable against Promat Promatect, Skamol EX/DB series, and Caloras hi-temp board in industrial tender processes. Every production batch is accompanied by a CoA covering density, thermal conductivity, modulus of rupture, compressive strength, and dimensional stability at rated temperature.

† Values are typical for the METHERM CS 1050 grade class and vary with density sub-grade. Request CoA for certified test data on a specific density grade.
Note on density sub-grades: Calcium silicate boards in this temperature class are available in multiple density sub-grades (light, standard, high-density) affecting compressive strength, thermal conductivity, and surface finish. Contact the sales team with application temperature, required compressive load, and board dimensions to confirm the appropriate density sub-grade.

Applications
Industrial Furnaces and Kilns
Primary application for METHERM CS 1050. Used as backup insulation behind hot-face castable refractories or ceramic fibre modules in continuous and batch furnaces across steel, aluminium, copper, glass, and ceramics manufacturing. Rigid board format allows precise fitting of furnace crown, sidewall, hearth, and door areas. Typical installation: boards bonded with high-temperature inorganic adhesive, staggered joints to eliminate hot-spot paths.
In heat treatment furnaces operating at 800–1050°C, METHERM CS 1050 boards reduce furnace shell temperature and improve thermal efficiency versus older monolithic refractory-only designs.
Petrochemical and Refinery Insulation
High-temperature pipe insulation for cracking furnace coils, fired heater convection sections, reformer pigtails, and hot gas transfer lines in oil refining and gas processing. Boards are pre-shaped into pipe-cover segments or fitted in flat sections around larger diameter vessels. Performance advantage over mineral wool in steam and moisture-present environments: rigid calcium silicate retains structural and thermal integrity after water exposure; mineral wool collapses.
Steel Industry
- Soaking pit cover insulation
- Ladle cover and tundish lid backup insulation
- Walking beam furnace sidewall and roof lining backup
- Reheating furnace door frames and spall shields
Aluminium and Non-Ferrous
Aluminium holding furnace wall insulation, reverberatory furnace backup, and die casting furnace insulation. Lower density sub-grades are preferred to minimise furnace heat-up time and thermal mass.
Glass Manufacturing
Float glass furnace crown and sidewall backup insulation, container glass furnace end-walls, regenerator upper-section insulation. Stable performance under the radiant heat flux of continuous furnace operation.
Chimney Lining and Flue Duct
High-temperature flue duct insulation and chimney liner backup in power generation, waste-to-energy, and industrial boiler stacks. Suitable for sulphurous flue gas environments.
Packaging & Storage
METHERM CS 1050 boards are supplied in standard formats:
- Standard board sizes: 600 × 600 mm, 1000 × 500 mm (other sizes on enquiry)
- Standard thickness range: 25 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm, 75 mm, 100 mm
- Custom cut-to-size available for container-quantity orders
Boards are palletised and shrink-wrapped for ocean freight (FCL and LCL available, FOB Shanghai). Store flat on a dry, level surface protected from water and rain. Boards that absorb moisture can be re-dried before installation without permanent performance loss. No special humidity or temperature storage requirements beyond keeping boards dry. Shelf life is indefinite when stored dry.
