MEGEL AG-300 — Coarse Aerogel Granules for Construction Board Core

MEGEL AG-300 is the coarse-granule grade aerogel — particle size 3–5 mm, bulk density 60–80 kg/m³, thermal conductivity 0.020–0.022 W/(m·K). For pre-fabricated insulating construction board manufacturing — fast pour rate, large void fill, mineral-bound board compatibility. Manufactured by Henan Minmetals East.

Overview

MEGEL AG-300 is the coarse-granule specification within the MEGEL silica aerogel granule range — supercritically dried silica aerogel produced in 3–5 mm granule format for high-volume integration into pre-fabricated construction board manufacturing. The large granule size is selected for two industrial advantages: pour and fill rate at the board-pressing line (the dominant bottleneck in mineral-bound board production), and uniform thermal performance distribution at the lower volume fractions typical of board manufacturing (15–25% by volume, vs 30–50% for plaster and concrete applications).

The coarse particle format trades dispersion uniformity at fine-finish applications for production-throughput economics in board manufacturing. Each granule is a discrete aerogel piece of 3–5 mm diameter, with thermal performance equivalent to the AG-100 and AG-200 grades on a per-granule basis (0.020–0.022 W/(m·K)). The differentiator is processing behaviour: granules fall freely through hopper feeders at production-line speed, fill voids in pre-binder mineral matrices without bridging, and distribute uniformly through board cross-sections during the slurry-mixing stage.

The granule format also delivers a non-obvious value in construction board fire performance. Discrete aerogel granules embedded in a non-combustible mineral matrix do not contribute to flame spread or smoke generation under fire-test conditions, unlike continuous aerogel coatings or aerogel-foam composites where edge-burn behaviour can complicate Class A1 fire classification.

Applications

Magnesium Oxychloride / Magnesium Oxysulfate Insulating Board

AG-300 at 15–25% volume in magnesium oxychloride (MOC) or magnesium oxysulfate (MOS) binder produces a thermal-insulating, non-combustible construction board — thermal conductivity 0.045–0.065 W/(m·K), board density 600–900 kg/m³, Class A1 fire classification, machinable with standard tools. Used in fire-rated wall partition systems, ceiling under-deck insulation in commercial buildings, and pre-engineered modular building wall panels. The combination of low thermal conductivity, A1 fire classification, and standard mineral-bound board handling is the value proposition versus polyurethane-cored sandwich panels.

Fibre-Cement Insulating Board

AG-300 at 15–20% volume in fibre-cement boards — replacing some of the conventional sand and fly-ash aggregate — produces a thermal-insulating fibre-cement board with cured properties approaching commercial PIR foam insulation while retaining the structural fire resistance, weatherability, and standard handling of fibre cement. Used in cladding rainscreen panels on commercial buildings, ferry vessel and bus internal panel applications, and external wall insulation systems for retrofit projects requiring non-combustible rated insulation.

Calcium Silicate Insulating Board

AG-300 integrated into calcium-silicate board manufacturing (replacing 20–30% of the silica filler with aerogel granules) produces an enhanced-performance calcium silicate board with thermal conductivity 0.030–0.045 W/(m·K) at 20°C — half to one-third the conductivity of standard calcium silicate (0.060–0.080 W/(m·K)). Used in high-temperature industrial applications where the aerogel-enhanced calcium silicate combines fire resistance (Class A1, max service 1050°C) with substantially reduced wall-thickness requirements.

Pre-Fabricated Insulating Sandwich Panel Manufacturing

Steel-faced and aluminium-faced sandwich panel manufacturers integrate AG-300 at 20–30% volume in cementitious or geopolymer cores to produce non-combustible insulating panels for commercial cladding, refrigerated warehouse construction, and modular building applications. The granule format pours uniformly through panel-injection equipment at production speeds compatible with continuous panel manufacturing lines.

Packaging & Storage

AG-300 is supplied in three standard package formats reflecting construction-board industry throughput:

  • 15 kg PE-lined paper bag — pilot-scale board formulation, sample manufacturing
  • 1 m³ FIBC — standard production board manufacturers (90% of customers)
  • 2 m³ container-fill option — high-throughput board manufacturers with dedicated aerogel handling

MOQ is 500 kg; 40' container loads 12–16 m³ of FIBC product. Pneumatic transfer at <0.3 bar pressure for production-line feed is the industry-standard handling protocol.

Store dry, below 40°C. Hydrophobic surface treatment maintains performance under high-humidity board-manufacturing environments. The coarse granule format is the most robust under bulk handling — minor mechanical fines (<5% by mass) can be tolerated in finished board without compromising thermal performance.

Standard P100 respirator and eye protection for bag opening; closed-system pneumatic transfer for production line operation. Shelf life is 24 months in original packaging.
