MEGEL AC-100 — Aerogel Coating Slurry, Acrylic Indoor Insulation

MEGEL AC-100 is the indoor acrylic aerogel coating slurry — acrylic emulsion binder, 35–45% solids, dry-film thermal conductivity 0.045–0.060 W/(m·K). Ready-to-spray pre-formulated aerogel insulation coating for interior walls, ceilings, behind-radiator panels. Manufactured by Henan Minmetals East.

Overview

MEGEL AC-100 is the indoor acrylic specification within the MEGEL aerogel coating slurry range — a ready-to-spray pre-dispersed aerogel coating with acrylic-emulsion binder, formulated for thin-film thermal insulation applications on interior wall, ceiling, and behind-radiator panel surfaces. The slurry is 35–45% solids by weight, applied at 1–2 mm wet film thickness by roller, sprayer, or trowel, drying to a 0.5–1.5 mm dry film with thermal conductivity 0.045–0.060 W/(m·K) at 25°C.

AC-100 is positioned for application contexts where ready-to-use formulation is the procurement-relevant value, not the raw aerogel powder: residential interior renovation, hospitality fit-out, office space thermal-comfort retrofits, and behind-radiator targeted-area insulation for old-building energy upgrades. The pre-formulated slurry eliminates the formulator burden of low-shear dispersion equipment and water-cement-aerogel ratio optimisation — the customer applies, the slurry cures, the dry film performs.

The acrylic binder is selected for indoor service compatibility: low VOC content (<50 g/L), washable to interior-paint standard, fire class B1, vapour-permeable for interior moisture management, and compatible with standard interior-finish topcoats (lime wash, mineral paint, vinyl emulsion). The slurry is supplied tinted-white as standard; pigmented colour variants are available against firm order for direct-finish applications.

Applications

Interior Wall Thermal Insulation (Residential & Commercial Retrofit)

AC-100 spray-applied at 1.5–2 mm wet film over interior wall plaster or gypsum-board substrate produces a continuous thermal-insulating coating with 0.045–0.055 W/(m·K) at 25°C. Used in residential energy-retrofit projects where exterior insulation is not viable (heritage building, party wall, ground-floor commercial frontage). Single application delivers measurable U-value reduction; two coats deliver retrofit performance equivalent to 25 mm of conventional internal wall insulation board. Finish topcoat application (interior-grade paint or wallpaper) at 24 hours after application.

Behind-Radiator Targeted-Area Insulation

Behind-radiator wall sections are typically the highest single-point heat loss in residential interior envelopes — the radiator's radiant and convective heat output is partially absorbed by the wall material and lost externally rather than radiated into the room. AC-100 applied at 1–1.5 mm dry film to the radiator-back wall area (or to a dedicated reflector panel installed behind the radiator) reflects 60–75% of this incident heat back into the room. Pay-back periods are typically under 2 years for the installed coating system.

Hospitality Fit-Out Thermal-Acoustic Coating

Hotel, restaurant, and café fit-out projects use AC-100 in combination with acoustic-absorbing topcoats to deliver simultaneous thermal and acoustic comfort to the guest experience. The aerogel coating provides thermal performance, the acoustic topcoat provides reverberation control — applied as a layered finish system on lobby ceilings, public-space walls, and acoustic-sensitive private dining areas.

Office Open-Plan Thermal-Comfort Retrofit

Open-plan office retrofit projects use AC-100 on perimeter wall surfaces and ceiling-bulkhead structures to address localised cold-spot complaints from staff seated near building-envelope surfaces. The coating system delivers measurable surface-temperature increase (typically 2–4°C above untreated control) at 1.5 mm dry film, sufficient to eliminate the cold-radiant-floor complaint that drives ergonomic productivity loss in modern open-plan offices.

Packaging & Storage

AC-100 is supplied in two standard package formats:

  • 25 kg sealed pail — small-batch project use, retail distribution through trade builders' merchants
  • 200 kg sealed drum — production application contractors, larger commercial projects

MOQ is 1 drum (200 kg). 40' container loads 24–28 drums or equivalent pallet of pails. Shipping FOB Shanghai standard.

Store sealed at 5–25°C in cool, dry conditions. Avoid freezing — the acrylic emulsion can phase-separate below 0°C and is not recoverable. Avoid temperatures above 40°C — the aerogel-binder interaction is stable up to that temperature but extended exposure above can cause settling. If settled, agitate gently on a paddle mixer at 50–100 rpm for 10 minutes; high-shear or extended mixing damages aerogel particles. Shelf life is 12 months in original sealed packaging.

Standard P100 respirator for application (aerogel-laden mist from airless spraying); roller and trowel application requires minimal PPE beyond eye protection. Cleanup of equipment with water before drying; cured film cleanup requires mechanical removal.
